The Midget A Ice Hawks girls hockey team sponsored by Playtex Sport / Energizer came away with another four points and climbed to second in the standings.
Saturday afternoon they had a date with the Etobicoke Dolphins and skated away with a 3-2 victory.
The Dolphins opened the scoring, but Vanessa Armstrong (Gorrie) tied the score, assisted by Taylor Vokes (Chatsworth). The Dolphins once again took the lead, but Kellie Rawn (Mount Forest) picked the top corner to tie the score again.
In the third the Ice Hawks kept the pressure on and after the Dolphins took a costly penalty, Armstrong banged in a loose puck for the winning goal. Kellie Bradley (Tara) and Janine Vanderschot (Owen Sound) got the helpers.
Sunday the girls took on the Willowdale Red Wings.
The girls came flying out the gate and Megan Yake banged in a rebound from Bradley to open the scoring early in the first period.
Despite keeping the pressure on, the Ice Hawks could not find the back of the net again, but Haileigh Duplantis (Port Elgin) recorded the shutout and the 1-0 victory.
Next weekend the girls have two away games. Saturday they travel to Midland to take on the North Simcoe Capitals. Then they head to Barrie on Sunday to take on the Sharks. by Jon VanLoon
