The Midget A Ice Hawks girls hockey team sponsored by Playtex Sport / Energizer finished off the regular season with two victories.
On Saturday, the girls faced the Orillia Hawks and skated away with a 3-0 victory. Vanessa Armstrong (Gorrie) opened the scoring with an unassisted marker. In the second period, Brittany Butcher (Owen Sound) scored, with assists going to Janine Vanderschot (Owen Sound) and Delaney Dupon (Owen Sound). Kellie Rawn (Mount Forest) finished the scoring in the third, assisted by Megan Yake (Mount Forest). Miceala Stutzki (Chesley) got the shutout.
On Sunday the girls travelled to Toronto to take on the Leaside Wildcats. It took a last minute goal, but the girls skated away with a 2-1 win.
Armstrong opened the scoring, banging in a rebound, assisted by Vanderschot and Butcher. The Wildcats took over the play in the third period and scored the equalizer early. The Wildcats kept coming and goalie Haileigh Duplantis (Port Elgin) kept the game tied.
Late in the third, with one Ice Hawk and two Wildcats in the penalty box; the girls took advantage and scored the winner. Right off the faceoff, Talyor Vokes (Chatsworth) passed to Jaime Van Loon (Walkerton), who sent Rawn in on a break. Rawn did not miss, ripping a shot over the goalie's shoulder.
Next weekend the Midget A Ice Ice Hawks girls hockey team sponsored by Playtex Sports/Energizer are competing in the Orangeville Sweetheart Tournament. article by Jon Van Loon
