The Midget A Ice Ice Hawks girls hockey team sponsored by Playtex Sport/Energizer were on the road for two games last weekend and came home with a win and a tie
Saturday the Ice Hawks took on the Orangeville Tigers.
The girls started out slowly and the Tigers opened the scoring early in the second period. Half way through the second period the Ice Hawks came to life. It started with Taylor Vokes (Chatsworth) blasting a shot from the point that found its way through everyone to get them on the board. Soon after that Megan Yake (Mount Forest) converted a great pass from Kellie Bradley (Tara) to give the Ice Hawks a lead they would not give up.
In the third period, Vokes scored again with assists to Brittany Butcher(Owen Sound) and Vanessa Armstrong (Gorrie) to give the girls a 3-1 lead. The Tigers refused to give up, pulling their goalie at the end of the game. They did manage to get one more goal with 30 seconds left, but could not get any closer.
Sunday the girls took on the Etobicoke Dolphins. It was a sloppy game for both teams, with lots of penalties. Micaela Stutzki (Chesley) was strong in net and even stopped a penalty shot in the third period to preserve the 0-0 tie.
Next weekend the Midget A Ice Ice Hawks girls hockey team sponsored by Playtex Sport/Energizer have two home games. Saturday they face the Barrie Sharks at 2:30 pm and Sunday they play the Orillia Hawks at 6:30 pm. Both games are at the Julie McArthur Arena.m by Jon Van Loon
