No better time to rally back
The Bantam A Hawks, sponsored by Mar Wind and Wiarton Golf, will need all of their players, and a commitment to rally back from a 2 game deficit, if they want to make a trip to Ottawa in April for provincials.
You couldn't help but be impressed by our Bantam A Ice Hawks on Saturday, as they prepared to face the first game out of 5 with the Stratford Aces. It became apparent that our girls would have to play with a smaller-than-ideal roster, with one player not making the trip due to illness, and another out with a concussion, and yet another with a small injury but willing to play. The girls began the first period with a resolve to play hard and play to win. As they played much of the game short-handed, they didn't show any signs of giving up, and proved that even short-handed, they were a formidable opponent for Stratford. Unable to recover from a one goal deficit, the girls left the rink with a 2 to 1 loss. The only goal was scored by Kathryn Schreiber, assisted by Olivia Linklater. Jessica McGregor played a great game for the Hawks, facing well over 30 shots in net.
Sunday at 12:00pm at the JMRC, the Owen Sound Hawks welcomed the Stratford Aces for game 2, again facing some absent players due to illness. Our Hawks allowed 4 goals from the Aces, and were only able to pocket 2 for themselves. Scoring by; Miranda Bruce from Kaitlyn Decaire, and Callan Yost assisted by Brianne Becker.
Now the team finds themselves with a 2 game deficit in the series, but definitely not OUT. With our regular roster, and some determination, the Hawks have everything they need to beat the Aces. They have the chance to get back in this series next Saturday in Stratford. They may have to insist on scoring more than 2 goals per game in order to out-score the Aces. That may be the new standard in order to advance.
Our girls really need encouragement and support. So let them know that you are rooting for them, and with the right attitude, the next news report will be about a win, and an impending come-back.
