Game changer left to the last minute
The Bantam A girls finalized their regular season with two very good home games this past weekend.  As they raced to a play-off spot against Barrie, it was a battle they continued to wage until the last dying seconds of the Sunday game vs. Etobicoke.

Saturday afternoon, the team welcomed the Aurora Panthers to the JMRC to play their final game of the season.  With a play-off spot on the line, our team wanted to have a good showing, and if possible, get a win against this team. Many fans were on hand to see the girls play their second-last game of the season.
Despite an early goal by the Panthers, our girls continued to play for the win, but were unable to get any pucks past the visiting goalie.  The score remained at 1 to 0 in favour of the Panthers.  The girls had a great third period, and played well.
Sunday at noon, the girls took the ice to play one last game against the Etobicoke Dolphins.  Again, the opposition started the scoring, but the Hawks were not going down without a fight.  It looked like we would again walk away with a loss, zero points, and no chance at the play-offs, until..... with a meager 3:09 left on the clock, the fans watched in anticipation as Erica Vokes moved the puck to Brie Becker and she took a skate down the ice, flashing past several opponents, and made a great shot from a wide angle.  When the puck hit the back of the net, the girls knew that this game was far from over.  This great play from the Captain, got the team fired up to keep up the hard work!
Soon after, with only 6 seconds on the clock, a scramble resulted in front of the Etobicoke goalie.  It took one slap to knock some sense into the puck, and again, Owen Sound scored.  This time, it was Olivia Linklater, from Delaney Pritchard and Brie Becker to get the tie.  This was a classic "leave it to the last minute", but couldn't have come at a better time for the girls.  They continue to vie for that last playoff spot.
With such close games against two of the best teams in our loop, the girls take alot of confidence into the approaching Silver Stick tournament, starting February 8 in Aurora.  Great finish, girls!!
