Ice Hawks advance to finals at the Northumberland Winter Classic
The Bantam A squad competed well at the tournament this weekend, and advanced to the Consolation final on Sunday morning with the Clarington Flames.

The action started on Friday night, when the Bantam A squad faced the Cornwall Typhoons, resulting in a shut-out for Jessica McGregor, and a scoreless game.

Saturday morning, the team faced off against the host team, West Northumberland Wild.  Owen Sound had a single goal, scored by Kylie Maue, assisted by Madison Ames and Callan Yost.  The Wild edged out the Hawks with a win of 2 to 1.
Saturday evening was an entertaining game against the Clarington Flames.  The Flames opened the scoring, but Owen Sound was able to tie the game with a power-play goal in the second period,  Brianne Becker, assisted by Gabby Jex.  Shortly after, Clarington answered back with their own goal.

In the third period, Delaney Pritchard skated down for our third goal, assisted by Brianne Becker and Callan Yost.  With 4 minutes left on the clock, Kaitlyn Decaire found the back of the net, assisted by Kathryn Schreiber, and Alexis Martin.  This was a 4 2 win for the team. The Hawks were advancing to the finals.

With only fractions of a point separating third and second place, our team was scheduled to face Clarington for one last game in the Consolation finals on Sunday morning.  The Hawks were unable to repeat their dominance over the Flames, and walked away from the finals with a 2 to 0 loss.  A powerplay goal during a two-man advantage opened the scoring for the Flames, and an empty net goal in the last minute secured the win.

Overall, the weekend was an enjoyable one, with the exception of one player that fractured a finger and left the arena for a hospital visit to get it patched up in time for our remaining games.  Good team effort, girls.
The Northumberland Wild went on to win their own tournament.
