Barrie Sharkfest results
The team spent the weekend in Barrie, attending the Barrie Sharkfest. The play started Friday at 2 pm, so the girls missed a whole school day ( oh, dang ) and faced a variety of teams that are outside of their usual match-ups. Luckily, we brought along two very able-bodied defense players to fill in for missing players.
The Bantam A girls headed to Barrie with a full roster, thanks to the help of Erika and Courtney that were willing to be called up from their home center to give us some support in defensive roles.
First match-up was on Friday 2pm vs. Ottawa. This team proved to be a tough opponent, and Owen Sound walked away with a loss of 3 to 1. Only goal scored by Miranda Bruce assisted by Madison Ames.
Next, the Peterborough team was the opponent for the Friday 7pm game. Our Ice Hawks took the win on this one, scoring twice. Goals by Erica Vokes assisted by Olivia Linklater, and Miranda Bruce unassisted.
Saturday at 12:15pm the girls were faced with playing against the Temiskaming team, that had played very well up to this point, plowing through their previous competition, so we knew that this would be a hard-fought game. Despite a great effort, our Ice Hawks managed only one goal, by Kylie Maue early in the game, and were unable to produce any more. Temiskaming scored 4 goals, so final score was a 4 to 1 loss.
The girls left the arena Saturday to wait out a couple of games that would determine if we had done enough to advance to the quarter final round. The result was that our team qualified to play against Mississauga in the quarter final game Saturday night. This game was the final one for the Ice Hawks, because they failed to get any goals on the score board, and lost 3 to 0 to Mississauga.
The Bantam A squad return to league play next weekend with back-to-back home games on Saturday at 2:30pm and Sunday at 12:00 noon.
