A Bronze Finish!
Wow! What a fantastic year end tournament. Our girls came together this weekend to play some of their best hockey all season. Such a proud moment today to see them earn a third place finish in the WOAA. Well done!
The Sign Street Novice C's fought hard all season improving with each practice and game to finish 3rd in the OWHA Playdowns, and finsihed 3rd in the WOAA today with a big 2-1 win over the Saugeen Storm at the Bayshore. Dani Wilkie scored the game winner with just over 3 minutes to go on a break away. Wilkie also scored the Ice Hawks first goal. Aimee Dubosq made many great saves all weekend and this game was no different.
The Ice Hawks played two games Saturday on the opening day of the WOAA yearend tourney. First against Walkerton Capitals who finished 2nd in the tourney to Kincardine losing 1-0 in the Final. The Ice Hawks lost 3-0 to the Capitals but earned a half point in each of the first two periods because it was tied 0-0 until the 3rd. In their 2nd game the Ice Hawks faced Saugeen and tied 0-0 in a real goaltenders battle.
Just to give you a little hint of how far this group of girls have come this year. The girls started out back on October 2nd playing their first game vs Walkerton in Walkerton. With 4 returning girls and 12 newcomers the Novice C Ice Hawks knew very little about the game of hockey losing 13-0. It was a huge learning curve for the girls for the next few months understanding positional play and who does what when the puck is where it is on the ice. With this young group the sky was the limit for learning the game and making new friendships along the way. Head Coach Cody Feltis kept a great positive vision all year as to where the team was headed. Under his leadership the girls never quit and continued to give their all having lots of fun along the way which is what playing sports is all about. The Sign Street Novice C's have one final tournament Easter weekend in the GTA to enjoy each others company. Good Luck in the Canadettes tournament ladies, you've made your parents, grandparents and coaches very proud. Its been such a great pleasure to watch your continued success.
Special thanks go out to Sign Street, Deb and Dan Shaw for being our teams major sponsor this year and helping out in so many other ways.
