On
Saturday, January 17th the
Bantam 'C' Ice Hawks had an experience of a lifetime! The girls proudly suited up in their white and blue jerseys to represent our organization in the
United Way Bruce Grey fundraiser: the Habs vs Hab-Nots Hockey Game. Our 5 minute game against the
Habs Alumni featured players
Guy Carbonneau,
Steve Shutt,
Stephane Richer,
Jocelyn Lemeiux,
Richard Sevigny and
Gilbert Delorme.
Paul and Arenn Osadzuk from our Bantam 'A' team cheered from the Habs bench, while Novice Ice Hawk (and epic Habs fan),
Sarah Cowan, supported our girls from the front row.
Before the game, excitement was high in our dressing room, where we heard phrases such as: "
Oh no, I thought they'd be a lot older!!", "
I'm so excited I can't talk!", and "
I'm not leaving this arena until I get a Hab to autograph my stick!"
Highlights from the game included a goal by
Sarah Weatherhead, excellent goaltending by
Cassidy Caswell and
Siobhan Osborne, and strong defensive work by
Hannah DesRoches. She cleared
Gilbert Delorme from the Ice Hawks' net, who was screening Caswell deep in her crease.
Although our 5 minutes against the Habs ended quickly, our girls will never forget this experience. They will always be grateful to the
United Way for allowing them to showcase
Owen Sound Girls' Hockey, and to the
Habs Alumni for being the wonderful sports and true gentlemen that everyone would expect.
In case you were wondering...the player that wanted to get an autograph DID get her stick signed.
Thank you, Guy Carbonneau!!
