Bantam Girls Play Well in Busy First Month...
The Owen Sound Ice Hawk Bantam BB girls had a very busy month of September playing in 10 hockey games and boasting a 5-3-2 record.

They kicked things off playing in the Caledon East Coyotes Place to 'B' Tournament Sept 7th & 8th weekend.

At that point, the team had had just one official team practice, so it was hard to really say how they might do on the weekend, but it turned out all right in the end!

They met up with the Ancaster Avalanche in the first game, Owen Sound scored first in the 1st period on a goal from Kenzie Falls with the only assist going to Keirsten Henrich.

Ancaster scored in the third period and the game ended in a 1 to 1 tie.

Game #2 was against the Oshawa Lady Generals and Owen Sound won 2 to 0.

Kenzie Falls would open the scoring again in the 1st period from Keirsten Henrich and Natalie Madill.  Maggie Harvey would score in the third period with Julia Sutherland drawing the only assist.

Game #3 was against the St Catherines Brock Jr Badgers and Owen Sound won with a convincing 5 to 1 win.

Owen Sound went up 2 quick goals in the first with Keirsten Henich finding the net first with assists going to Chesney Miller and Kenzie Falls. Then Falls would follow suit with assists going to Keirsten Henrich and Natalie Madill.  Lyndsay Cumming would score in the second period off a face off with assists going to Ceceily Mallette and Chesney Miller.  Karissa Rasmussen would get in on the action in the 3rd period with an exceptional second effort goal with Chesney Miller and Renayla Campbell getting the assists and then Cheney Miller would score from Karissa Rasmussen and Maggie Harvey to round out the offensive outburst!

So after finishing in first place in round robin, this would set up the rematch with the Ancaster Avalanche again.

Just like the first game, it was back and forth, but Owen Sound would draw first blood again.  Kenzie Falls would score on a nice passing play from Chesney Miller and Mary Green.

Ancaster tied it up late in the third period as they were pushing heavily on the offence.  So after regulation, things were still square, so this set up the 4 on 4 overtime, Owen Sound would win the first draw and the play was in the offensive zone for a minute.

After a whistle, the next line went out and again Owen Sound was taking the play to their opponent, the kids were changing on the fly when Chesney Miller picked a pass off in the Neutral zone and went down 1 on 4 deking her way through the traffic and eventually sealing the deal with a nice back hand over the goalies glove hand to win 2 to 1.

It was a hard fought battle with a very good Ancaster team and a great way for the kids to start their season!

Kids played 4 games the following weekend, they lost 4 to 1 against North York Storm A#2 getting out shot 24 to 14. Jolie Mcknight scored for OS from Chesney Miller in the first period and the game was tied after 2 periods. Then they played North York Storm BB that same afternoon and tied 1 to 1 after out shooting North York 23 to 8.  Natalie Madill would score with Natalie Mole getting the only assist.

The next morning they traveled to the Molson Centre in Barrie and played very well out shooting the Sharks 23 to 14 in a 3 to 1 win.

Chesney Miller scored first with assists going to Karissa Rasmussen and Jolie Mcknight.  Maggie Harvey scored the eventual winner from Lyndsay Cumming and Renayla Campbell. Barrie would score in the third period as well but Kenzie Falls scored on a hard work breakaway to fight off two defence and slip it low glove hand on the keeper with Keirsten Henrich and Heather Koch getting the assists.  Off to Aurora to play The Panthers A Red team that afternoon and saw a 1 to 0 loss for the Ice Hawks.  Again the score was tied 0 to 0 after 2 periods as they were out shot 20 to 12.

On Sept 22nd they visited the Orangeville Tigers BB and won 3 to 1.  Orangeville would score first in the 1st period. Owen sound ramped it up out shooting the Tigers 26 to 7.

Lyndsay Cumming would tie it up in the 2nd period with assists going to Maggie Harvey and Chesney Miller.  Then Keirsten Henrich would score in the 2nd on a beautiful passing play from Jolie McKnight and Julia Sutherland.  Henrch would score again in the 3rd period with assists going to Chesney Miller and Kenzie Falls.

The last game of the month was at the Nottawasaga Inn vs the West Durham Lightning A team and the kids lost 1 to 0 in a hard fought battle.

Very good start to your season girls, well done!!!
