Provincials Clinched after Double OT & Shoot Out Thriller...

The Owen Sound Julie McArthur Regional Rec Center was rocking Tuesday night as the Owen Sound
Home Decor & More Bantam BB Ice Hawks were hosting the Walkerton Capitals in Game #5 of their series.
The 2 teams have had quite the battle all season long having beat each other once in the series, but also they have tied five times by zero to zero scores, three times in regular season action, and twice in this series.
But as play off hockey goes, there has to be a series winner and after finishing 1 to 1 after 3 periods and then two thrilling Ten Minute Sudden Death Over time periods had still solved nothing yet, a 3 person shootout was the final deciding factor for each team and the Ice Hawk team found the back of net twice and has clinched a birth in the 2019 Provincial tournament in Toronto on April 5th to 7th.
The game was fast and tight both ways, Walkerton had great skating pressure to kick things off, and due to that pressure out shot Owen Sound 5 to 3 in the first period. But with not much time left in the period on the score clock, Lyndsay Cumming had tracked down a puck on the fore check and got it directed to the net and Maggie Harvey scored with 0.08 seconds left on the rebound for her first goal of the Season!
The second period was scoreless and saw end to end action once again. Walkerton again out shot Owen Sound 4 to 2 in this period.
The 3rd period was again maintaining the fast and hard hockey with Walkerton again managing a 5 to 3 margin on the shots.
Walkerton tied it up with just about 5 minutes left in regulation to tie it up at 1 to 1.
So after regular time was over, then 2 amazing Overtime periods were played which saw nothing change on the score sheet & the edge in Shots were 13 to 11 for the Ice Hawks in those 2 periods but it would still need to be decided by the dreaded shoot out to find the series winner!
Walkerton would shoot first and miss on their first attempt.
Olivia Hall would shoot first for Owen Sound and she would bulge the twine on a beautiful deke move to the glove side.
Again Walkerton would miss on their second attempt.
Natalie Tolton was selected as second shooter for Owen Sound as team leader in goals this season it was the hope she would finish things right there and then as she has scored some big goals for the team the last 2 seasons, but the Walkerton Goalie, Teagan Campbell stopped her on the low glove side deke to give her team a chance to shoot again.
Walkerton's third shooter came in and deked to the blocker side and scored up and over OS goal tender, Sophia Fuller to tie it up at 1 goal a piece, leaving the game in Ice Hawks team captain, Chesney Miller's hands.
Miller went down and faked glove and then deked blocker twice and eventually put it through the arm pit area to seal the deal for her team.
What a performance by both these teams in this series and congratulations to the Capitals for an outstanding effort and the the Ice Hawks for finding a way to win the big game!!
Final 2 to 1 for the Home Decor & More Bantam BB Ice Hawks!!!
Next action for the Bantams is this weekend in the Toronto Leasides 38th Annual tournament. They play Friday at 2 pm vs the Aurora Panthers. Saturday they play Mount Forest Rams at 9:30 am, followed by Toronto Leasides #1 at 1:00 pm and then North York Storm A team at 9:30 pm.
Top 2 teams from each pool go on to Sundays Semi Finals and finals.
Good Luck Ice Hawks and Congratulations on your amazing series victory!
