Bantam BB Ice Hawk Gives Back to the Community
Our
Bantam BB Ice Hawks are volunteering on November 17th at the Owen Sound Attack game in support the 2nd Annual
Cubs for Cancer fundraiser for the
Canadian Cancer Society (CCS). As they prepare for this event, one of their teammates stepped up to participate in the
Cubs for Cancer Hair Cut. Renayla Campbell (#12) raised pledges to earn the opportunity to have her hair cut alongside Attack players and other participants earlier today. Funds raised in this hair cut/head shave event are used to support research and community services for pediatric cancer. Renayla's ponytails will be used in the making of wigs for local cancer patients.
According to her profile on the CCS fundraising website, this is not the first time Renayla has donated her ponytail: "I have donated a ponytail for each of my 'graduating years'. I had a short hairstyle after my kindergarten graduation and again after my grade five graduation when I was transferring to a different school to continue with the senior elementary grades. Now, Gr. 8 is my biggest graduating year yet! Although the timing is based on my school grade, I am donating my ponytail through a hockey fundraising event, organized by the Owen Sound Attack!!!"
We are very proud of the leadership shown by Renayla, and of her team for volunteering their time at the Cubs for Cancer game in just over one week. If you or someone you love has ever been supported by the Canadian Cancer Society, please consider giving a cash donation to the Cancer Society when the 'buckets' are being passed around by our Ice Hawks at the Attack game on Saturday, November 17th.
