2017-18 Kevin Paupst Memorial Sportsmanship Award Recipient - Leeann Roney
The Kevin Paupst Memorial Sportsmanship Award was presented to Leeann Roney of the Atom LL team by her coach, Darrin Skene. Darrin describes Leeann as a 'great team first player, always working hard and having a great attitude always'.
Kevin Paupst was an assistant coach for three years on a team that grew from PeeWee HL, to PeeWee C and then Bantam C. In the fall of 2014 he became ill and bounced back from invasive surgery with his trademark positive attitude and the support of his close-knit family. We were all shocked when Kevin passed away suddenly in February of 2015. His team was devastated from his loss: aside from being a dedicated coach, he was also dedicated to being a constant source of fun at practices and on the bench during games. We could always count on Kevin to crack a joke or make a sarcastic comment to lighten the mood when things got a little too stressful.
We are proud to honor Kevin’s contribution to our association by awarding the Kevin Paupst Memorial Sportsmanship Award annually to a player on a C or LL team that exemplifies the following qualities: an enthusiastic spirit, dedication, commitment, and showing a positive example to others.
Congratulations on winning Kevin's award, Leeann! Your Ice Hawks family is very proud of you!
