Introducing Kevin Green: 2018-19 PeeWee BB Coach
Submitted By Laura Vandrunen on Thu 04 05, 18
We are pleased to announce Kevin Green as the Head Coach of our Pee Wee BB Ice Hawks.  Here is some information about Kevin, his background, coaching philosophy, and plans for the upcoming season:

Who I am:

Coach Kevin Green born and lived in Flesherton my entire life. I played my first hockey game for the Flesherton Mite’s in 1971; my Dad the Coach put me in net, cold feet and tons of tears, from there I stayed in net my entire Minor Hockey career. I played in three All-Ontario championship series, losing twice in the finals as a Peewee and as a Juvenile and winning once in Juvenile. Most of my hockey experience and knowledge comes from playing in the Flesherton Men’s League, starting at age 12 in net and playing 25 years on defense.

In Managing the Dundalk and District Arena, I have watch more hockey games and practices than most people care to, seeing some of the best hockey and some of the worst hockey at all levels.

Proudest achievement other than two daughters is winning 5 Canadian National Baseball championships.

Coached:

Flesherton Juveniles 2 season
GHSS High School Hockey
Flesherton Tykes Novice Atom
Flesherton Minor Baseball 3 seasons
Flesherton Senior Baseball 3 seasons

Season Plan:

Team bonding event held in Dundalk Aug 29-30

8 to 10 Preseason games (will be on the road as teams traditionally will not travel to Owen Sound)

Lower Lakes Season- 22 games

Play Downs minimum - 2 games

Tournaments - 4 minimum, 16 games

Provincials

This will mean over 50 games plus two practices per week.

Coaching Strategy:

Team is priority, finding where each player fits into the overall success of the team will be key. All players will have strengths and weaknesses, putting players in a position of success and not failure is important.

Coaching Goals:

My goal this season is to help develop hockey skills, with the following priorities:

  1. Sportsmanship- I expect that all players respect all team mates and all opponents. Cheering for teammates and praise promotes fun for all. Negative comments and Bullying will not be accepted. Team is not just on the ice it is everywhere.

  2. Fun- I will attempt to teach using methods that promote fun. Hockey is a game and games are meant to be fun.

  3. Ability- I have many years of hockey knowledge to pass on. If you listen you will learn to play a team game regardless of ability.

  4. Leadership- I need your help to make me be a good teacher. A leader knows what is right for the team. If you see something that helps us and the team I want to know. Lead by example is the strongest message

Parents What We Expect from You:

    1. Encourage your child; positive comments will only help development. Encourage other players. Parents are as much teammates as players are.

    2. Arrive on time. Practice starts 5 mins before we go on the ice. Pre practice talks are as important as on ice work.

    3. Grievances I want to hear your issues. Please be constructive not argumentative. Give yourself 24 hrs to be constructive then call or email your concerns. I will address all concerns.

    4. Be part of the team, the success and fun associated with this team starts with you. A season of fun outweighs as season of discontent.

    Going Forward:

Four tryouts see website for all times and locations (Tryout Schedule)

Following the final tryout, I will meet with all parents and players individually to hopefully extend an invitation to play for the Owen Sound Ice Hawks.

Communication throughout the summer to inform you of future plans and developments.
