Midget C Ice Hawks End Season with Successful WOAA Tournament
Submitted By Laura Vandrunen on Wed 03 29, 17
The Owen Sound Midget C girls had an exciting weekend to finish their year! On Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26 they played Lucknow HL and Saugeen Shores HL in Group 3 (the Builders).

They won both games on Saturday to advance to the Championship game on Sunday against Lucknow.

In the first game on Saturday against Lucknow HL they worked hard to score the first goal.  Megan A started the scoring and was assisted by Kaylie A and Mae M.  No goals were scored in the second period, but in the third period the girls seemed to pick up momentum and put four more goals in the net.  Natasha S scored the second goal of the game, assisted by Sarah W and Hannah D.  The third goal was scored by Martine P, assisted by Mae M and Megan A.  The fourth goal was scored by Hannah, assisted by Natasha.  Hannah quickly added her second goal to make the final score of the game 5-0 for our Ice Hawks.

In the second game on Saturday against Saugeen Shores HL, Hannah D earned a hat-trick.  The first goal of the game was scored by Hannah and assisted by Megan M.  Megan A also scored in this game.  The final score was 4-0 for Owen Sound Ice Hawks Midget C.  Hannah showed some great puck handling skill to move the puck around the Saugeen defense who tried to get in her way.

The whole team showed what they had worked hard on all season, making great passes and “holding the blue line”.  Siobhan O earned back to back shutouts to support her team in bringing home the wins.

The Championship game on Sunday was a tough battle.  Lucknow came to the rink to give it their all, and after the first early goal scored by Mae M, assisted by Martine P, they held off the Hawks until almost the end of the first period.  With less than 2 minutes remaining in the first period, Martine scored the second goal of the game, assisted by Mae.  When the other team called a time out to motivate their players, it made it clear that our girls needed to add another goal to help secure the win.  The came back after the time-out was over and added 2 more goals with less than five minutes in the third period remaining.  Goal 3 was scored by Megan A, assisted by Martine and Hannah.  Goal 4 was scored by Megan A again, this time assisted by Hannah and Ashlee.

It was an exciting weekend of hockey and the Owen Sound Midget C girls were proud to bring home medals and a plaque for the organization!
