Home Opener a Sweet Victory
Our Bantam A Ice Hawks had local fans, sponsors, and the Mayor of Owen Sound in attendance at their home opener on Saturday.  An official puck drop took place to celebrate the very first home game for the team, sponsored by Wiarton Golf Club and Mar Wind. Shown in photo from left to right, are; Scott Maue, team manager, Jackie Lemon, president of OS girl's hockey, and Mayor Haswell.  Madison Ames had the honour of taking the face off for the home team.  With the puck drop complete, the team got down to business.

The Ice Hawks had the first goal in the first period, set up by Alexis Martin and Kylie Maue to Miranda Bruce who one-timed it past the goalie.  The Barrie Sharks decided to bite back with their first goal in the first period, scored by Alexandra Frigon, with assists by Elrick and Albano.
With the score tied at 1-1, the Ice Hawks entered period 2 determined to hold off the Shark Attack.  The result was some good battles for the puck, some great passing, and another goal for Alexis Martin, assisted by Mikayla Whitney!
The third period had no goals recorded, but not for lack of trying.  The Sharks didn't want to go home without a win, so they ramped up their physical play, and pulled the goalie for the last minute, but our team was not deterred.  They continued to hold their one goal lead, and it took a huge effort by Jessica McGregor in net to keep the puck out.
The final result was a 2 - 1 score, a well-earned win.  If that wasn't enough, the girls were treated to cupcakes courtesy of Madison's grandparents.  Keep building on your success girls.
