Home Ice Clinched Down the Home Stretch
The Owen Sound Ice Hawks Pee Wee BB team has been on a real charge for a while now and through their terrific play has been gaining a lot of important experience and confidence along the way.

The team was primarily a win one and then lose one team for the first 2 months of their season while they learned how to play against stiff competition and instill confidence in their own style.

Now through hard work and patience, the team has turned a major corner and are vastly moving up the ranks of PW BB stream.

The girls finally started to show some major growth mid November when they won a 3 to 1 game against the Belmont Blazers where they seemed to show signs that they had found something special in themselves, and special has all they have been since then with a complete team defensive game in which they had improved a 2.84 goals against average from their first 25 games to 1.15 goals against average in the next 13 games.

Thus the improved play showed impressive results going 7-2-4 in those games and moving Owen Sound up the Lower Lakes standings in the North Central division.

In that stretch the girls were able to finalize a team goal to get at least 1 point from every team in their own division when they played their last home game of the season in Barrie on Jan 13th.

The team had done so against everyone else in the division except for the Barrie Ice Sharks who were in first place since day 1 of the season and had only lost 2 games all year and they were both to 2nd place North Simcoe Capitals.

But Owen Sound delivered another solid complete team effort and were able to shutout Barrie 1 to 0 in their own building and while doing so, knocked them into 2nd place behind Simcoe and clinched 4th place and home ice advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs for OS.

The girls will be set to host the Markham-Stouffville Stars for Game #1 on Sat, Jan 27th at 5:00pm at the Julie McArthur Rec center and return on the 28th at 12:15pm to Stouffville for the best 2 of 3 or 4 point series.

Great job ladies, keep working hard and good luck in the playoffs!
