Success for Owen Sound Peewee HL Ice Hawks

If you thought you heard a bunch of squealing stuck pigs around 8:00 pm on Sat November 17th, well it wasn't pigs. It was the Owen Sound Peewee HL Ice Hawks celebrating their 1st big win of the season defeating Waterloo 2 - 0.  The Celley continued back at the Carriage Ridge Inn with swimming, hot tubbing, and games.

The Owen Sound Peewee HL Ice Hawks had a successful weekend November 16th, 17th, and 18th at the Barrie Sharkfest Tournament earning their first big win of the season.  Hannah Desroches game winning goal and Katelynn Lavergne's empty netter was supported by strong team efforts from Mercedes Culbert, Kate Patton, Bonnie Slocombe, Kristen Hamelin, Sarah Weatherhead, Amy Lefebvre, Kalie Armstrong, Rebecca VanDrunen, and Megan Merner. Goaltender Cassidy Caswell had a steller performance in net earning the shut out. Although losing in the quarter final, a good time was had by all.

The team bonding in Barrie paid off as their success carried through the following weekend beating Walkerton at 5 - 1 and 4 - 1 at an away and home series. On Saturday November 24th,  forward Mercedes battled hard in the corners setting up great plays. Kate (2), Kristen, Hannah, and Sarah scored for Owen Sound.  Assists want to Kate, Katelyn, and Sarah.  Defenceman Kalie pushed through her opponents along the boards finally breaking out for a great shot on net.  Megan looked for teammates, controlled the puck, and made hard passes up to the forwards, and Rebecca played her position well protecting her goalie.

Another great performance followed on Sunday November 25th.  Katelynn was on fire scoring the first goal of the game.  Sarah dangled the puck through her opponents to score unassisted. Mercedes efforts were rewarded in the 2nd period earning her an assist as she passed to Katelynn who skated the puck in deep, made a quick pass in the slot to Kate who one timed it to the back of the net.  There was lots of end to end action in this game as Hannah and Kristen kept the pressure on Walkerton.

Defenceman Rebecca, and Megan played relentlessly the entire game and will be glad when teammates Bonnie and Amy return to lighten their load.  Late in the third, Kalie switched to forward and after several shots on net Katelynn swiped a rebound to Kate at the open side of the net for the forth and final goal of the game. Cassidy Caswell was awesome between pipes for a second weekend in a row.   Skating hard and exceptional passing by all teammates was the Owen Sound Peewee HL Ice Hawk's key to success this past weekend.  With consistent effort like this, the coaches are confident of more wins this season.
