Another 4 Point Weekend for the Midget A Team

The Midget A Ice Ice Hawks girls hockey team sponsored by Playtex Sports/Energizer travelled to Orillia on Friday night to take on the Hawks and came home with a 4-2 victory.

The girls got off to a slow start and found themselves down 1-0 early. They tied the game on a power play goal from Nicole Ballagh-Evans (Chatsworth), assisted by Kellie Bradley (Tara) and Vanessa Armstrong (Gorrie),  but soon found themselves down again. Despite outshooting Orillia 14-4 in the first period, it ended with the Ice Hawks down 2-1.

The girls kept the pressure on and Brittany Butcher (Owen Sound) scored on a 5-3 powerplay, with assists going to Janine Vanderschot (Owen Sound) and Bradley. The Ice Hawks struck again right away when Megan Yake (Mount Forest) and Emma MacMillian (Durham) set up Kellie Rawn (Mount Forest). Armstrong rounded out the scoring, set up by Taylor Vokes (Chatsworth).

Sunday afternoon the girls took on the North Simcoe Capitals, despite outshooting the Capitals 48-15, the girls battled a hot North Simcoe goalie and ended up with a 2-1 loss.

The only Ice Hawk to find the back of the net was Vanderschot, assisted by Ballagh-Evans.

Sunday evening the girls faced the Toronto Leaside Wildcats and ended the weekend on a good note, winning the game 3-1.

Early in the first period, Bradley blasted a shot past the Wildcats goalie, assisted by Rawn. In the second period Bradley set up Yake to double the Ice Hawks lead. Before the end of the second, Butcher scored a powerplay goal, assisted by Armstrong and Vokes. In the third period the Wildcats scored one goal, but that was as close as they would get.

Next weekend the Midget A Ice Ice Hawks girls hockey team sponsored by Playtex Sports/Energizer travel to Etobicoke to take on the Dolphins on Saturday and  Willowdale to take on the Red Wings on Sunday.  by Jon VanLoon
